Making its first appearance in in 2015 and performing for almost 10 years now, Hamilton took Broadway by storm bringing a fresh approach. Based on Ron Chernow’s biographical book about Alexander Hamilton, it tells the life of Alexander Hamilton’s humble beginnings and rise to one of the Founding Fathers of the USA. This is a profound story that is both founded in truth and clever, Hamilton has been lauded as revolutionary in its storytelling and has influenced politics, culture, and education.
It was created by American composer and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda, famous for his achievements in both Broadway and film, also creating the score and lyrics for previous Broadway play In the Heights, another Tony award-winning spectacle. Miranda is also the creator of music and lyrics in popular musical movies such as Moana. This hit musical, featuring a mixed cast, has showtunes in a style that blends new genres like hip hop, jazz, R&B and more, which has made Hamilton all the more revolutionary and engaging by showcasing these music genres to the Broadway stage. Showtunes such as “Satisfied”, “Wait For It”, and “You’ll Be Back”, have been considered as top-rated memorable songs from the musical since its Broadway release. Lin-Manuel Miranda has attributed his music inspiration for Hamilton came from top rap and hip-hop rappers of USA, finding a way to unite the different genres together in an unprecedented manner! The score of Hamilton are praised heavily by Ohio critics alike, compared to other Broadway shows that have been staged, Hamilton proves to be more fast-paced and lively than others.
Hamilton has garnered a record-breaking 11 Tony Awards and 16 Tony nominations, Olivier Awards, Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and even a special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors. So far, Hamilton has achieved widespread success as it continues its limited runs all over the world, including the continents of Europe and Asia.
