After performances in the world’s most popular theaters such as Broadway itself and London’s West End, Hamilton will now also be playing for a limited season this summer in Ohio Theatre of Columbus, an especially regarded venue renown for its greatest facilities fit to host top-of-the-line productions and shows.
The show honors the life of Alexander Hamilton, produced and composed by the multi-talented Lin-Manuel Miranda, based off the 2004 biography of Ron Chernow. It tells the historical story of Alexander Hamilton in a ‘hipper’ manner, remaining faithful to the events behind Hamilton's life but with artistic flair and musical choices that makes this production extremely entertaining. Hamilton initially began off Broadway in mid 2015 and was instantly met with amazing reviews from its opening night. As well as plenty of press articles and reviewers, The Washington Post, called it “making ecstatic history”, as Hamilton’s opening night with its amazing cast including the likes of show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda himself in the lead role and Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff, astounded audiences in its first performance with a spectacular opening night. The show went on over the next decade to win eleven Tony Awards from 16 nominations, in addition to Olivier, Grammy, and Pulitzer Prize Awards.
Since it began in 2015, Hamilton has toured to be performed in several theaters around the world, where it has been receiving continuously positive reviews. BroadwayWorld calls The production “the hottest ticket in town”, as it appeals to a bigger range in audience due to it being relatable to both the more seasoned audiences who appreciate the history behind Hamilton, and the newer audiences that hears about the exciting and artistic approach behind Hamilton. Over in London’s West End, TimeOut mentions their worry behind the Musical being overblown, but that “Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical about Alexander Hamilton, the first secretary of the U.S. Treasury, is actually better than the hype suggests”. More so, recently the touring cast in its Manila, Philippines’ performance, PEP PH describes the production as a “visual and sensory feast that adds layers of depth to the narrative”; “This musical is a masterpiece not because it tells a flawless story, but because it brilliantly captures the essence of the imperfect human experience, and in doing so, it achieves perfection on the stage”, they stated.
Magazine critics and viewers alike agree that the show is a must-watch this summer as it continues its performances all over the globe.
