It’s been 85 years since Bob Kane and Bill Finger created the world of the Dark Knight, defender of law and order in Gotham City, treading the shadow zone between right and wrong with skill and a honed mind, to defend the innocent and purge the city of evil. “Batman” debuted in the 27th issue of the DC Comics comic book, “Detective Comics”, in 1939. Since then, Batman has become DC Comics’ flagship character.
The 1989 blockbuster, “Batman”, is the first installment of what became a massive series by Warner Bros. The film was directed by one of the most creative minds in Hollywood, Tim Burton, with Danny Elfman composing a thrilling original score, and top actors Michael Keaton as Batman and Bruce Wayne and Jack Nicholson as Batman’s arch nemesis, The Joker. “Batman” became the sixth highest-grossing film in history at the time of its release and racked up numerous awards, such as an Academy Award for Best Art Direction and several Saturn Award and Golden Globe nominations.
Composer Danny Elfman quickly became a force to be reckoned with in both the music and film worlds. To date, he has composed over 100 film scores, including scores for films such as “Edward Scissorhands”, “Good Will Hunting” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, “The Corpse Bride”, “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory”, and “Charlotte’s Web”. During his illustrious career, Danny Elfman received many accolades, including four Academy Award nominations, 24 BMI Film & Television Awards, three Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Award nominations, one Grammy Award, and seven Saturn Awards.
