The production follows the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, opening in the present day with Westenberg sitting in a therapist’s office. As Diamond, he details how he can no longer make music like he used to while the doctor helps him navigate the trials brought by this reality throughout A Beautiful Noise. The play goes back to Diamond's childhood days, examining his introduction to music and all the good and bad times since then, including his rise to stardom and battle with depression. The Broadway show, written by the four-time Academy Award-nominated Anthony McCarten, was produced by Robert Gaudio and the award-winning Ken Davenport. With over 6 decades of Diamond’s music, the team produced a “musical collage” with showtunes that take on "lives of their own”, as McCarten said during an interview with The Boston Globe for the Neil Diamond Musical.

The jukebox musical entranced audiences from the opening act with a full engaging story and uplifting songs.
The musical soon ended up on NYC Broadway, running from late 2022 into early 2024 at the Broadhurst Theatre. Talents like Will Swenson (who played the young Neil Diamond), Mark Jacoby (present-day Diamond), and Linda Powell (The Doctor) all delivered fantastic performances after the Boston production.
The musical quickly spread its reach. Now, new faces make up the traveling cast, including the American Idol winner, Nick Fradiani, (playing Neil Diamond).

While original stage play was nominated for Outstanding Production of a Musical and Outstanding New Broadway Musical, the cast took home the gold. Hoggett, Hurder, and LeProtto won Outstanding Ensemble in a Broadway Show by Chita Rivera Awards for choreography and dance. Other award nominations include the Drama Desk Award and Drama League Awards.
