Princess Aurora’s story is a tale that has been retold many times. The one and only Sleeping Beauty highlights her demise, when she was cursed by an evil fairy to sleep for a hundred years. Due to her beauty, status and the fact that she is loved by all, the evil Maleficent cast a spell that on Princess Aurora’s 16th birthday, she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel’s spindle and die. Thankfully, the three good faries Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather are around to weaken the spell. Instead of dying, Aurora will go on a deep slumber and wake up only if she receive’s true love’s kiss. Out of fear, Aurora’s father, the king, sent all the spinning wheels in the country to burn at a pire. But on her 16th birthday, Aurora still found herself a spinning wheel and an entrancing song caused her to prick her finger on the spindle. She immediately falls into a deep sleep, causing the beatuiful princess to sleep for a hundred years.

Balletmet’s renditon of the fairytale classic brings a brilliant cast to the stage. Princess Aurora, the handsome prince, Maleficent, and other titular characters will be performing to the fantastic music of legendary Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the very same composer who created the mindblowing score of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.
